Rockstar has announced GTA VI as a single-player release. Its purchase announcement does not establish a separate price, release date or entitlement for a GTA VI online game. As of November 1, 2026, I could not verify an official standalone multiplayer listing. If the only reason you would buy now is to play online with friends, the announced purchase does not answer that need.
What a GTA VI purchase actually promises
Rockstar's June 24 preorder announcement describes Jason and Lucia's story and names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for the November 19 release. The Ultimate Edition adds content for that story. A vehicle, weapon or outfit advertised for a particular edition tells you what comes with that edition. It does not tell you whether a future multiplayer product will exist or what its owner will have to pay.
Three different questions hide inside “sold separately”
Players often mean one of three things. Can I buy multiplayer without the story? Will story owners have to pay again? Will some multiplayer content be included with a membership? Each requires a different piece of evidence. A standalone store listing could answer the first while leaving the second open. An edition comparison would need to name multiplayer access explicitly to settle whether story owners receive it. A membership bonus needs its own entitlement description.
Why today's GTA Online is easy to mistake for an answer
Search a console store for Grand Theft Auto Online and you can encounter the existing GTA V-era product. Read the full title, publisher, platform and description before buying. A Los Santos nightclub, bunker or existing character belongs to that ecosystem. A familiar Rockstar logo or the word Online does not turn it into a preorder for a GTA VI multiplayer experience. Likewise, a GTA+ promotion attached to a purchase is a subscription offer, not proof of a future multiplayer licence.
How I would decide whether to preorder
If you want the single-player campaign, compare editions by the story items you actually want. If you and a friend only want to play together, wait for a listing that names the multiplayer product and states what both players must own. Save a screenshot of the inclusion wording at checkout if the distinction affects your purchase. The useful evidence is the published entitlement, not a retailer's category tag or what an earlier GTA release did.
